Three weeks, three continents

(Posted by Laurence)

Our blogging silence has been due the fact that we spent most of August travelling from Africa, to America, to Europe and then back to Africa again – three continents, and numerous airports in the space of three weeks, not to mention different time zones and lost sleep!

First stop Colorado, USA, where we were attending the 5-yearly EMI World Staff Conference.  The timing of this has been perfect: having settled into our life in Uganda we have now been able to meet the vast majority of EMI’s worldwide staff, both the westerners and some of the local nationals.  The conference was attended  by staff families also and focused on a theme ‘renewal’, with programmed talks and seminars as well as free time to connect with other staff.

From there to the home counties and London, with a fleeting visit to Bristol, to visit both our immediate families and – most importantly – be present at Oliver’s (my brother) wedding!

After a few days in Surrey enjoying a British heatwave (including a trip to the beach), we headed back to the cooler (but humid) weather of land-locked Uganda.

Arriving back in Uganda felt slightly odd, at first, because it was both foreign and familiar; but within 24 hours it was like we hadn’t left…
